TICKER - SELF INITIATED PROJECT
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Ticker is a self-initiated product design concept for a focus and productivity app that supports time management through scientifically-backed timer modes, schedule planning, and session tracking. The interface was fully designed and prototyped in Figma, with an emphasis on simplicity, modularity, and behavior-driven UI. The goal was to design a product that merges productivity techniques with clean, motivational visuals to support consistent daily use.

CHALLENGES
One of the primary design challenges was combining multiple timer methods such as Pomodoro, 52/17 Rule, and Ultradian cycles into a cohesive experience without overwhelming the user. The interface also needed to support transitions between session timing, calendar views, task timelines, and performance dashboards, all while preserving mental clarity. Balancing information density with calming visual hierarchy was essential to reduce friction and cognitive fatigue for daily users.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES
The design followed key behavioral and interaction principles:
Minimal effort to start a timer (one-tap action)
Clear transitions between timer, task, calendar, and dashboard views
Modular layout that adapts to various workflows (students, freelancers, remote workers)
Neutral, calming visual tone that supports longer periods of focus
ACTIVITIES
Psychological Design Patterns
The design incorporated:
Zeigarnik Effect: Promoting re-engagement through partially completed sessions or goals
Fitts’s Law: Large tap targets for session actions and CTA buttons
Miller’s Law: Grouping information into digestible units (e.g., task lists under 7 items)
Research and Planning
Design was informed by analyzing popular productivity frameworks and existing time management apps. Key inspiration included cognitive load reduction, frictionless action initiation, and cross-feature integration to minimize app switching.
OUTCOMES
The result is a complete design prototype of a productivity app that supports structured focus, scheduling, and reflection. The system is built to promote self-awareness, habit-building, and reduced decision fatigue. Though not developed, the design serves as a fully packaged concept ready for further iteration or hand-off to development for implementation. Ticker stands as a strong portfolio piece demonstrating design thinking, behavioral UX, and mobile-first interaction systems.
